But no one listened. I knew I would wind up being the primary caregiver of the dog if we got it. I knew I was going to be the one that was stuck with all the behavior problems. Who has to control the dog when she barks at my brother? Me. Who has to take her for a walk and discipline her on said walk, even though I have never had a dog and therefore do not know the first thing about disciplining them on walks or wherever? Me.
How did this happen? I saw no one else taking it upon themselves and therefore I took it up. Why? I want the dog to have a better life than it did. She was forced to remain in her cage much of the day, which is no life for a dog. The dog even had sores on her "elbows" when we took her in. The sores didn't tell you that maybe SOMETHING is wrong?
Heaven forbid I bring up how tiresome and frustrating it is to take the dog out for a walk because when I do that, the response I get is that we should get rid of her. There's compassion for you. If we gave the dog up to the shelter the conclusion of the shelter would probably be that she is unadoptable. The dog will be put to sleep. But the dog isn't a person or anything, in so far as it deserves compassion, understanding, discipline, etc, right? And when I don't take her for a walk I am asked by the same people why I didn't take her for a walk.
